About Tank101
The complete fish keeping guide for beginners and hobbyists.
Our mission
Every time someone searches a fish keeping question — "why is my tank cloudy?", "best filter for a 20 gallon?", "can a betta live with guppies?" — they should find an answer that's accurate, practical, and actually usable. That's the gap Tank101 fills.
The aquarium hobby is full of forum threads that contradict each other, outdated blogs, and product pages that read like ads. We aim to be the clear, trustworthy alternative.
What we cover
- Getting Started — setup, cycling, and choosing your first tank and fish
- Fish Tanks — reviews by size, from 5-gallon betta tanks to large community setups
- Equipment — filters, heaters, lights, and gear, reviewed honestly
- Fish Species — care guides with real parameters (tank size, temp, pH, tank mates)
- Fish Health — disease diagnosis and treatment you can act on
- Aquarium Plants — low-tech to high-tech planting advice
- Water Quality — the nitrogen cycle, parameters, and fixing problems
- Tools — interactive calculators like our Stocking Calculator
How we work
Our guides combine published aquarium science, manufacturer specifications, and real hobbyist experience — including the r/Aquariums and r/bettafish communities. We don't copy-paste; every article is written to be the answer we wish we'd had when we started.
Product recommendations are based on specs, owner reviews, and value — not on which brand pays the most. We update reviews as products change and new models arrive.
How we're funded
Tank101 earns a small commission through the Amazon Associates program when you buy products through our links, at no extra cost to you. This keeps the site free and independent. See our Affiliate Disclosure for the full details.
